Seth Olinsky is an American musician and composer, best known as the guitarist, singer and founder of the influential underground rock band Akron/Family. He has toured world wide playing festivals such as Coachella, Primavera, and Roskilde, and has released records on Young God Records, Dead Oceans/Secretly Canadian, P-Vine, Joyful Noise, Crammed, Spunk, Family Tree Records, and Lightning Records. He is also known for his multi-band orchestra piece Band Dialogue, and 40 drum performances alongside his rock n roll musical moniker Cy Dune. His large works have been performed at several festivals and museums including Hopscotch, SXSW, Treefort, Sled Island, Ecstatic, River to River, and MASS MoCA.
Seth also owns and operates a studio where he has brought his unique voice as a composer and modern take on producing music to works for film, television, and award winning commercials. His clients include Vice, HBO, Mercedes, Apple, Nike, Samsung, Playstation, Ubisoft, Audi, Nissan, Ford, Chevy, Fitbit, Turbo Tax, Bud Light, Asics, Gatorade, Infiniti, Jetblue, GE and more.
He scored Culture Shock from the HBO TV series State of Play by director Peter Berg (Patriots Day, Deepwater Horizon) and also worked closely with director Doug Pray (Hype!, Scratch, Surfwise) on his documentary on sculptor Michael Heizer titled Levitated Mass. He has collaborated closely on multiple projects with celebrated director Brian Beletic, including an Olympic campaign shot in South Africa by cinematographer Bradford Young (Arrival, Selma, Solo). He worked closely with Wieden+Kennedy Shanghai to compose the epic post minimalist piece for Nike's The Next Wave mixed by Oscar winning engineer Chris Jenkins (Mad Max: Fury Road, Batman v Superman, Heat). He composed the music for the trailers for Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Apple Watch 4, and for the National Geographic Breaking 2 documentary on marathon runner Eliud Kipchoge.
Additionally, Seth is known for his collaborative work with Swans/Angels of Light /YGR founder Michael Gira and has worked closely with legendary minimalist composer Rhys Chatham as a section leader and conductor for his 100 and 200 Guitar Orchestras performed at Lincoln Center as well as well as other US and UK festivals.
